Presurgery Instructions for Adult Patients
Patients scheduled for morning surgery should not eat or drink anything after midnight on the night before the surgery. Patients scheduled for afternoon surgery should not eat or drink anything after 5:30 A.M. on the day of surgery. This includes tea, coffee, soft drinks, dates, and candy. You will be asked to confirm this in writing on the day of surgery. A companion must accompany you. Your companion will be asked to wait for you in the hospital until your surgery and discharge are completed. You will not be able to drive yourself home after your procedure. One companion is allowed per patient. Pediatric patients must be accompanied by an adult. Infants and children are not permitted to accompany the patient. Because your stay will be very short, you will not receive visitors. Bring dark glasses with you to wear when you leave the hospital because bright sunlight/indoor lights may cause discomfort. Wash your face with mild soap before coming to the hospital. Remove all make-up and nail polish. Do not bring jewelry, valuables, or a lot of money with you.
The hospital takes no responsibility for lost items. Bring your own bottles, milk, and diapers for infant patients. If medication has been prescribed for you, please obtain it from the pharmacy prior to the day of surgery. It must be taken on time after the surgery. Please bring all your current medications with you in their original labeled containers.
