Fellowship
When King Khalid, may God have mercy on him, noticed the difficulties that Saudi citizens were facing while traveling abroad to receive medical and surgical treatment for eye diseases, he, may God have mercy on him, realized his country’s need for an integrated medical center for treatment and research specializing in ophthalmology.
In the late seventies, King Khaled, may God have mercy on him, and his council ministers proposed the idea of establishing a special ophthalmology center that would serve the entire Middle East region, and in August 1979, a royal order was issued to build King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital, which rose to be classified among the best hospitals in the world. The government donated a land area of 2.5 km² on the northwestern border of the city of Riyadh to implement the project.
Fellow doctors must overcome the most challenging clinical and surgical problems in their field, as this contributes to increasing their confidence in treating rare and complex cases. In addition, fellow physicians are strongly encouraged to participate in independent research and resident education. In return for these efforts, fellow physicians will acquire precise diagnostic and treatment skills that cannot be acquired from lectures or textbooks. Graduates will have the privilege of a lifetime of expertise in their subspecialty – a skill used to benefit patients and educate the next generation of ophthalmologists.
